How Much Weight Should You Gain?

pregweight.jpgThere are many things you can do to prepare for the delivery of a healthy baby. One of the most important things is eating right to gain the extra weight you'll need to support another life.

    How much?
During your first office visit, your doctor probably will tell you how much weight to gain during the nine months of your pregnancy. It's recommended that most healthy women gain 25 to 35 pounds, but this can vary depending on whether you're overweight or underweight.

How To Treat Pregnancy Hemerrhoids & Constipation

Help! I'm 6 months' pregnant and I have hemorrhoids that are driving me crazy! And, on top of it, I'm always constipated. What do I do?!
    - Cyndy

Hemorrhoids - which are actually varicose veins in the anus or rectum - are a common pregnancy complaint. They may bleed, itch, or sting, especially during or after a bowel movement. As the blood volume increases and the uterus presses against the pelvis, the veins in your anus or rectum may enlarge into grape-like clusters.

By Kathryn E. Livingston for Your Baby Today

Time management is a major issue for new mothers, observes Maryann Troiani, Ph.D., coauthor of Spontaneous Optimism. "The first complaint I often hear from new moms is that they feel their time is bankrupt. They're always trying to beat the clock and just can't keep up with the demands of their new situation."

How to Make Bed Rest Bearable

Bed rest. Two words that every woman fears hearing during pregnancy. Yet therapeutic positioning, the medical term for bed rest, is surprisingly common: Roughly one in five women spends part of her pregnancy in bed. It's considered a "treatment" for a host of pregnancy-related issues. Those who experience bleeding, or are in danger of miscarrying or delivering too early, or who have pre-eclampsia, an incompetent cervix, premature ruptures of membranes, or chronic heart disease, are often required to stay in bed (or on a sofa) for days, weeks, or even months during pregnancy.
