Healthy Meals in 10 Minutes or Less

healthymeals.jpg

By Susan Male Smith, R.D.

My friend Caroline recently lamented that all too often, she finds herself wandering the supermarket aisles at day's end in desperate search of something - anything! - to serve for dinner that night. Something quick. And easy. But healthful, too, of course. After all, she isn't willing to compromise on her children's health -- or her own. Fortunately, with more and more supermarkets catering to hurried, no-time-to-cook shoppers, it's easier than ever to find dinner fixings without resorting to overly processed, sodium-laden convenience foods.

Start by visiting th ... Continue reading Healthy Meals in 10 Minutes or Less.

The intriguing fresh flavors and textures of Tunisian Steak Lettuce Wraps will impress your friends and family. A new take on the classic London Broil recipe, marinated beef top round steak is grilled to medium rare perfection (145 degrees F). Leafy lettuce cups cradle the thin slices of steak and crisp vegetable slaw. Add an accent of the date spread, sprinkle with fresh mint and roll!

Not only is beef top round steak readily available and affordable, it's also one of the 29 cuts of beef that meet government guidelines for lean. Lean beef is a naturally rich source of nine essential nutrients, including protein, ... Continue reading Summer Steak Wraps .

By Jessica Goldbogen Harlan

Ever since my toddler started eating table food, I've fallen prey to the dilemma with which so many modern moms struggle: whether or not to buy organic. But is organic really better? And can I afford it on my already overstretched grocery budget?

If you've asked yourself these same questions, here are five important insights I've learned a ... Continue reading Is Organic Really Better?.

Bubble Loaf

This breakfast recipe is gooey but tasty and can be a lot of fun to make. It was always a challenge for mom to keep us from picking, prodding, and poking at this fun breakfast treat while the bread dough was rising. And even more of a challenge to keep us from burning our hands and mouths on it after this sticky, gooey treat came out of the oven. It gets its name from the fact that the pieces you put into it look like bubbles. It is a good recipe to make for brunch since the dough takes some time to rise. Hint: Think Father's Day!

2 loaves partially frozen bread dough
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons cin ... Continue reading Bubble Loaf.
