Weirdest School Rules
by Nicole LaMarco
The inspiration for this article came from a rule at my daughters' school that I was not aware of before. The rule is that the children are NOT allowed to stay inside during recess unless they are being punished. I was told the kids need to go outside and run around for a little while. While I do understand this, I think this is a weird school rule. If my daughter wants to stay in to study or read I think she should be able to. However, there is not enough staff to supervise them during this time. This discovery inspired me to search for more of the weirdest school rules, because I knew t

Summer Sanity: We Pack for Camp
by Wendy R. Khabie
Cousins Dan Geller and Liz Pomish know the joke all too well: What's the easiest way to get your kid ready for sleep away camp? Change his name to machine washable! All the labeling and laundry... not to mention the last minute running around town for sunscreen, bug repellent, flashlights, and water-resistant sleeping bags is enough to make even the sanest parent go berserk.
One summer, Dan, his wife Heidi, and cousin Liz traveled a zigzag pattern across the Twin Cities that resembled one of those maps inside of an airline magazine, stopping at every drug store and sporti

by Julie Burton
Think back for a minute...how did you feel when you left the hospital with your newborn baby? Personally, whether it was with my first, second, third, or fourth child, words that come to my mind are exhausted, overwhelmed, slightly terrified, and of course, grateful. How 'bout GORGEOUS??? Uh, NO!!!! Rachel Swardson Wenham, who had three babies in nearly three years, is on a mission to add that word to the list. This past summer, Rachel founded Go Home Gorgeous, a company that offers a chance for new mothers to no longer leave the hospital exhausted and sore, but rather have them Go Home

Been There. Had Enough of That. Made the T-shirt!
by Wendy R. Khabie
For decades, the t-shirt has been a popular vehicle of expression. In fact, you can tell a lot about someone's taste in music, political affiliation, and religious beliefs by simply reading the words written across their chest.
And it's not just adults who are wearing it on their sleeve. Pop into any children's clothing store, or a major retailer and you are likely to see kids' clothing emblazoned with messages such as "Stunt Man in Training" or "Drama Queen." But some of what is printed on clothing intended for the little ones isn't always so whimsical, and the messages

Parenting: the Comedy
We know Mrs. Hughes has been around for a while, but if you haven't seen her riff on parenting, enjoy. First of all, it's inspiring to know she began her career as a comic when she was almost 50. Second, she's really funny.
When I found out that I was pregnant, one of the first thoughts I had (after "oops") was how much fun I would have buying outfits for my little one. A few days later I was walking past a Baby Gap and saw a super-cute outfit in the window so I went inside, intending to buy it for my bundle of joy. About 30 seconds later I walked out in disgust after having found out that the outfit would put me back about $50. Who is going to pay fifty dollars for a three-piece outfit that would be worn for all of a few months? Forget it.
