An Ex-Ad-Gal-Turned-Mom Spreads Good Chair: Notable Minnesota Moms

reyschair2.jpg

By Rey Tabborak

Do you happen to be a parent of a crafty kid who spends all their time dreaming up the next project: cutting, pasting, painting, collaging, pretty much anything that creates a mess? Do you often find yourself buying yet another activity kit, with puzzling instructions, that is, at the end of it all, a big exercise in packaging waste, not to mention dismal outcomes?

I happen to be one such parent of a six-year-old, an ex-advertising executive-turned-mom, who never thought I'd seek my chaotic past in marketing, only to find myself as the marketing engine of a new produc ... Continue reading An Ex-Ad-Gal-Turned-Mom Spreads Good Chair: Notable Minnesota Moms.

An Allergy Primer for Beginners: Lost in Suburbia®

by Tracy Beckerman

Spring is a tough time of year for us mothers. With all of our deductive reasoning skills, amateur sleuthing talents, and mommy radar, many moms still can't tell the difference between a kid who has pollen allergies and one who has a cold.

Why does this matter, you might ask?

Well, not to be rude, but the kids with allergies are welcome in my house. The kids with colds? Not so much.

It's not that I have anything against the kids with colds: It's their germs I could do without.

Even if I frantically run around the hou ... Continue reading An Allergy Primer for Beginners: Lost in Suburbia®.

Buy in Bulk: Go Green and Save Money

As more of us shop for green products and make wiser energy choices -- and increasingly have to watch our budgets -- buying in bulk is becoming a popular option. Bulk products reduce the amount of waste going into landfills and take less energy and other resources to produce while offering shoppers lower prices.

Statistics from the Environmental Protection Agency show we generate about 80 million tons of waste from packaging and containers every year -- almost a third of the country's municipal solid waste. And besides the waste products themselves, the manufacture of all those boxes, cans, cartons and labels t ... Continue reading Buy in Bulk: Go Green and Save Money.

Notable Minnesota Moms: Lucie Hunter, Momspit

By Julie Burton

I feel so lucky to be able to be meeting so many bright, creative, go-getter Minnesota moms who are coming up with fabulous ideas to make our lives as moms better, brighter, cuter, more interesting, and now cleaner! And Lucie Hunter is one of those moms. Prior to meeting Lucie, I had only seen Momspit on her website, but I have to admit when I opened the Spit Kit (press kit for Momspit) and got to feel and smell the product, I was completely SOLD. What mom doesn't lick her finger to clean some chocolate off her son's face because she is just about to go into her in-laws house and she can't have him ... It's What Mom Really Wants for Mother's Day

wantformothersday.jpg

by Carolina Fernandez

A good night's sleep. Without interruption.

A clean house. Without asking for it.

Food in the fridge. With the shelves cleaned out before the new stuff goes in.

Breakfast in bed. With dark chocolate on the side.

Time to read a book. Without pictures.

Laundry folded. As if you knew that.

What mom really wants for Mother's Day is for you to be her mind-reader. To know before she even asks for it what it is she really wants.

Moms of newborns and toddlers are to ... Continue reading It's What Mom Really Wants for Mother's Day.

M is for the Many Things...

On Mother's Day, it seems appropriate to ponder what other people have said about motherhood. Some quotations for your enjoyment:

"Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible." ~ Marion C. Garretty

"A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest." ~ Irish Proverb

"All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother." ~ Abraham Lincoln

"Youth fades; love droops, the leaves of friendship fall; a mother's secret hope outlives them all." ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

"Mothers of ... Continue reading M is for the Many Things....

Notable Minnesota Moms: Cassie Wallace

roundbottomslogo.jpg

By Julie Burton

When Cassie Wallace's son Liam, who is now 4 1/2, was 3 weeks old, he went on a massive nursing binge. After noticing the crazy amounts of nursing that was going on, Cassie's husband John commented, "Wow, he is quite the boob man." Cassie agreed and decided that Liam needed a t-shirt saying just that, so she made him one. Liam's "boob man" t-shirt was a big hit. Cassie explains that Liam was happy to nurse, and his t-shirt was a coy way of telling people: "This is what our life is about right now." At first, when Cassie would notice people reading the t-shirt, she felt the urgent ... Continue reading Notable Minnesota Moms: Cassie Wallace.
