Great Gifts For Boys Under $25

by Nicole LaMarco

Are you still looking for the perfect gifts for boys in your family this holiday season? If so, you'll find plenty of suggestions for gifts that are perfect for all ages and for all budgets with prices under $25 on all of the items.

Building Toys as Gifts
One of the classic gifts for boys, as well as for girls, is a set of wooden ABC blocks. These blocks are great for learning and for building. Plus, they are safe for children as young as two years old.

Older boys might enjoy Lego gifts. While many of the sets are very pricey, you can find smaller ones that complement larger sets or that can be used separately for under $25. If you forgo the Star Wars themes and focus on just purchasing a set of the building blocks, you can get a lot more for your money, including a handy case.

Games
Old school board games still make great gifts. You can find tons of classics at affordable prices, including Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, and Connect 4. Life, Scrabble, Clue, and Monopoly are great choices for older boys. Keep in mind that, in the case of Monopoly, anything other than classic Monopoly is going to run you more than $25.

Of course, gifts today are becoming increasingly high-tech. While the boys in your life won't be able to get most of the newly released games for their Xbox 360 or Wii consoles for under $25, you might still be able to buy these types of gifts. Instead of the new releases, look for platinum edition games for the systems. These make great gifts and have lower prices. Also, considering purchase games for the Nintendo DS because these often cost under $20 and make ideal gifts.

You can also give the gift of downloadable game content by purchasing Wii or Xbox 360 points. This option is available at most video game specialty retailers.

Science Gifts
Educational toys can be great gifts, too. For less than $20, you can find science kits at many retailers. These kits include everything needed to perform safe science experiments in your home. They come in a variety of options, including chemistry, and are appropriate for children as young as five years old. Parental supervision is, of course, a necessity.

Another great idea for gifts is an ant farm. Don't worry-- most of these kits don't include the ants right away. The recipient's family will have to send off for them but boys can spend hours staring at the intricate lives of the tiny creatures.

Electronics for Boys
For younger children, the Leapster products have been very popular. They make gifts but if you're on a budget you may have to settle for purchasing accessories, such as additional games and carrying cases. This could be a great idea if you have a head's up that a Leapster is going to be under the tree.

Older boys might like the Vtech Genius Notebook, which provides educational games and introduces them to the world of portable computers.

The perfect gifts for many boys today could be iTunes gift cards. Always ask the parents if this would be an appropriate choice. You could also purchase gift certificates at sporting good stores or electronics stores, especially if you need to ship the gift in time for the holidays or you don't know what types of gifts to purchase.
