Peanut Butter Blossoms Cookies

by Jill Borash

Another classic cookie recipe. A favorite of kids everywhere because it combines two things they love: peanut butter and chocolate. My daughter prefers to eat the chocolate out of it first and then eat the rest of the cookie. Of course, she tries to do this with just about anything that has chocolate in it that we give her. Ah, a daughter after her own mother's heart. The chocolate should always come first!

1 cup peanut butter
1 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
3 1/2 cups flour

In a large bowl, cream sugars and shortening together. Add in the eggs, vanilla, and milk. Then the flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix in the peanut butter last. Roll into balls, put on a baking sheet and flatten a little. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in a 350 degree oven. When you take it out of the oven, put a chocolate kiss or chocolate star candy on top.
