Welcome to MomTalk Kids Krafts

by Tracey C. Agranoff

Greetings and Welcome to Momtalk Kids Krafts. My name is Tracey Agranoff and like you, I am a mom with very active kids who sometimes need a little creative direction (or in the case of the nail polish incident -- redirection). My girls are now 9 & 10 ¾, but I still get the "I'm bored" or "There's nothing to dooooo" whine on a fairly regular basis.

You would think that since I have been crafting , teaching and working with children of all ages for about 30 years (yes, I am that old), that I would have the kids crafts secret. Sorry, I have to be honest I am still learning and trying new things to engage my own as well as other kids every day

Greetings and Welcome to Momtalk Kids Krafts. My name is Tracey Agranoff and like you, I am a mom with very active kids who sometimes need a little creative direction (or in the case of the nail polish incident -- redirection). My girls are now 9 & 10 ¾, but I still get the "I'm bored" or "There's nothing to dooooo"whine from these two bright (even if I do say so) and creative (take after their mother) kids on a fairly regular basis.

You would think that since I have been crafting , teaching and working with children of all ages for about 30 years (yes, I am that old), authored a Children's Craft Book and led countless workshops that I would have the kids crafts secret. Sorry, I have to be honest I am still learning and trying new things to engage my own as well as other kids every day-- that's what keeps my life interesting and fun. That being said there are some things about kids and crafts that I do know and that I am very sure of:

  • ALL children (and adults for that matter) are creative, just in different ways.
  • or young children, the process of creating is more important than the end result.
  • All art supplies are not created equal.
  • Empty toilet paper rolls make great binoculars, race cars, flower pots, or puppets.
  • Some kids love to get messy and some don't.
  • Just because it says washable on the marker, crayon or paint doesn't make it so!
  • Even blunt tip scissor usage needs to be supervised (check out my 3rd grade school pictures- yikes).
  • You don't need a lot of stuff to create -- use what you have on hand.
  • Old socks are worth saving.
  • All children's paintings and drawings look fabulous when framed.
  • Spending time with your child creating something together is priceless

Taking ideas and concepts and converting them into crafts is what I do, it's my talent if you will, how my brain processes things. I am very excited and proud to be sharing these ideas with you. I hope that you will find ideas that grab and motivate you, projects that are fun and enjoyable for everyone taking part. I hope that visitors to this corner of Momtalk will share some of their ideas for projects as well, kind of like a "craft exchange"-- Moms passing on great ideas to other Moms --what a beautifully creative concept!
