Calcium Supplements Do Little for Healthy Kids

Get milk--not supplements. This could be the new slogan for the dairy council, as evidence now shows calcium supplements are no substitute for kids looking to build strong bones.


"Supplementing the diet with calcium in healthy children has little benefit for bone health," said lead study author, Dr. Tania Winzenberg, from the Menzies Research Institute, Australia.


While many kids do not consume enough calcium in the first place, researchers have found only scant evidence to suggest that calcium supplements have any value in the diet of a relatively healthy child.
