Backyard Sand Casting: Kids Krafts

Age: 6-10 years old


You Will Need:


  • Powder Plaster of Paris
  • Large tub
  • Sand
  • Trinkets, Jewels, Marbles (small stuff you have been saving for ????)
  • Spoon
  • Water
  • Large bowl and spoon for mixing


1. Fill a tub ¾ of the way full with sand, make sand damp with water.


2. Scoop out a design in the sand using a spoon or you hands.


3. Place small objects into your design, make sure the items are face down.


4. Mix the plaster according to container instructions.


5. Pour the wet plaster into your design. Covering the trinkets/jewels and filling the entire
design with plaster (don't worry about a little runover this will become part of your design).


6. Let Dry.


7. When hardened dig your sculpture out, brush off some of the excess sand
and see what you have created - your very own B.Y. (Backyard) Sand Casting!!


TIPS & HINTS
Try hand or foot prints for something more personal.


You can make candles with this method as well, substitute melted colored wax for plaster - don't forget a wick !
